Do it for the Plot: Nighttime Scavenger Hunt
The team hosted Do It for the Plot: Nighttime Scavenger Hunt, an event designed for students from the University of Kentucky, Transylvania University, and BCTC. It was a fun and engaging way for students to explore downtown Lexington, meet city planning staff, and share their ideas for the future of downtown.
Students began at Rupp Arena and followed clues to landmarks including the Fifth Third Building, the Old Courthouse, Transylvania University, Gratz Park, the Kentucky Theatre, and Fire Station No. 1. At each stop, students answered a series of questions that helped us learn more about their experiences and hopes for the city.
Some key takeaways from students included:
A desire for more diverse and entry-level job opportunities
An appreciation for the city’s historic charm and character
Interest in more partnerships with the city to support greenspaces and their maintenance
Overall feelings of safety downtown, but a wish for better lighting and increased support for the unhoused community
A request for more activities and entertainment options for students under 21
This event was truly a community effort, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make it possible. Special thanks to the local businesses that generously donated prizes: Rupp Arena, LexLive, the Kentucky Theatre, The Greenery, A Cup of Commonwealth, Lexington’s Tea and Brie, and Sorellas.
A huge thank you as well to Erin Goins of Bites of the Bluegrass for assisting with location selection and riddles, and to the Lexington Fire Department for allowing us to use Fire Station No. 1, which was a highlight of the evening for many students!
This was an incredible night of connection and feedback. We’re honored to have hosted it and grateful to the students who shared their visions for a more vibrant downtown Lexington.
